Shelter For The Spirit, is an Interfaith spiritual private practice, offering Spiritual Direction, Lifecycle Rituals, End of Life support and Reiki. You might think of Rivka as your personal pastor or rebbe (teacher).
Rev. Gevurtz (pronouns she/her/hers) has a special focus on healing religious wounding. We all have a sense of spirit, whether we frame that in the many names for the Divine, or if it is simply a reverence for Life and awe in Creation. But sometimes human institutions cause harm that separates us from our innate sense of that ineffable Breath of Life.
Rivka is a spiritual sojourner. Raised Catholic, having spent her young adult life in a Protestant congregation serving the queer community, diving into the healing energies of Reiki, she chose Judaism as her personal faith tradition when she covenanted with her beloved.
Her spiritual awakening and empowerment were against the backdrop of the AIDS epidemic, but she has continued to grow, as the wife of a trans man and mother of a nonbinary young adult. She has been strengthened by the beauty and truths of multiple traditions, and also suffered the pain of being wounded by faith for who she is and how she loves, coming out the other side in deep gratitude to The Divine.
Rev. Gevurtz was ordained through The Chaplaincy Institute in conjunction with earning her MDiv through Starr King School for the Ministry. She now serves as core faculty at The Chaplaincy Institute, overseeing the curriculum thread for Sacred Justice Ministry.
